The Fire Triange

The triangle illustrates the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel, and an oxygen.
If any of the three components is not available, the triangle is incomplete and hence the fire will be put stop burning and that is the mechanism used in extinguishing fires.

Classes of Fire


Classes Of fire depend on the fuel being burnt.

  • Class A : SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc
  • Class B : FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc
  • Class C : Fires involving ELECTRICAL APPARATUS
  • Class D : METALS such as aluminium, magnesium, titanium etc
